JoJo's Gentle Journey

a miracle poem, a heartbeat, a song.

Because we know how much this journey affects the heart, a portion of all book proceeds is donated to support
NICUs and 'Home Away from Home' programs.

Giving Back

By Tayo Akande

This story wasn't written from the comfort of my home; it was born in the quiet, rhythmic hum of the NICU while I sat by my son’s incubator as he slept.

Months passed and JoJo’s outcome was still uncertain.

I began to write as a way to process the rollercoaster of emotions and to create a positive affirmation for our family.

This book was my dream for us.

It was my vision of the day we would finally be reunited under one roof, away from the hospital walls.

I know firsthand the heavy isolation that comes with being a NICU parent. A world where time feels like it stands still while you fight battles no one can see.

I wanted to share Jojo’s story as a love letter to every parent currently holding on through the uncertainty.

My hope is that these pages offer a sense of "home" before you even leave the hospital, helping you hold onto positivity without letting the weight of the current situation pull you down.

The Heart Behind The Journey

In 2024, my pregnancy was progressing normally. Then, at 26 weeks, my son JoJo arrived early following a medical situation that involved decisions about my care which I later found myself deeply questioning.

In the blink of an eye, we found ourselves navigating the uncertain world of the NICU for eight months.

That experience changed how I see pregnancy care. It showed me how crucial it is to ask questions and to be fully informed before agreeing to any intervention.

My mission is to help prevent others from finding themselves in a similar position, and to empower parents to advocate for themselves and their babies, especially in moments where decisions feel urgent.

The Purpose

The NICU can be a lonely rollercoaster.

To help provide a little comfort, I’ve put together some free resources,

including Colouring pages, NICU Tips and links to charities that were a light for us during our stay.

Tayo Akande is a writer, dreamer, and proud mother whose storytelling began in

the quiet, rhythmic hum of the NICU.

Inspired by the resilience of premature babies and the strength of the families who walk beside them, Tayo wrote JoJo's Gentle Journey as a love letter to healing and

the hope of coming home.

During JoJo's stay in the hospital, the family's beloved dog, Lumi, was cared for by dear

friends, Michael and Tonia, while Tayo held onto the hope of the day their family

would finally be together under one roof.

This book was born from that longing and is shared with every parent holding on through the uncertainty.
